Tom Petty discussing his refusal to allow MCA to raise the price of his 1981 Hard Promises album from $8.98 to $9.98.
Tom was fighting greed and stupidity. Basically record companies were wanting more for less and Petty was telling them no, we charge a fair price. He didn’t want to squeeze the money out of people who were buying his records. He was a guy who bought records and if he’d agreed, he’d been squeezing the money out of people he used to know and he obviously was against that. I think there is a great nobility to him because of this. ~ David Fricke
